Summary

Sarah and Coach Liz get real with esteemed women’s health advocate and OB/GYN Dr. Jen Gunter, author of the just-released The Menopause Manifesto. In answering questions posed by the AMR Facebook community, Dr. Jen details:

-an enlightening way of looking at “menopause transition”;

-solutions for heavy periods (including a testimonial from Liz);

-current thinking on hormone replacement, soy supplementation, and herbal options;

-her own solution to combatting menopausal weight gain (including this book);

-how to cultivate desire (here’s the book she recommends); and,

-a theory about Snow White, plus an appealing scenario involving Daniel Craig!

In the intro, Liz shares details about the duathlon she just raced and the “zone of discomfort” (both on and off the course!) she entered. Dr. Jen joins at 12:18 (and if somewhat candid sex talk isn’t for you or young ears, skip 51:57 - 57:53).

which is run by run. That's a fine because I think of you almost first and foremost as a swimmer.

1:21.5

Oh, thank you. Before I was a swimmer, though, I was a runner. Okay. Yeah.

1:28.4

But you always seem to be working on your swimming and you also post very cute pictures of you

1:33.0

in your swimsuit. So I'm a big fan of the loud neon flowery swimsuits. So that's why. Yes,

1:44.0

I was inspired by one of your pictures, but I can't do those thin straps on swimsuits. I have to

1:50.2

wider ones because those ones that are only about a centimeter wide just dig into my lats.

1:55.7

Yeah. Well, maybe you should tone those lats down a little bit.

1:59.4

Well, you know, it's hard to be so buff. What can I say? It's just so hard to be so raw.

2:06.8

You can't see me by doing that. We're going to pump you up, move. So okay, so Alabama for

2:12.9

I doathlon. How did it go? It went great podium podium. Yes. Nice. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It was

2:21.2

it was really good. It was it was fast and hard and it started at 1 p.m. and it was 90 degrees

2:29.0

and windy and hilly. It was everything you want from a race. You know, you want a race

2:34.0

to stretch you and to put you in your zone of discomfort and it sure did. Oh my gosh.

2:41.6

Oh my gosh. And and the whole trip to Alabama was a zone of discomfort for me.
