Summary
On this week's episode of The Cine-Files, Steve Morris and John Rocha continue their Season of Rob Reiner celebrating the films of Rob Reiner with part 1 of their deep dive and exploration of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY from 1989. Considered by many to be the greatest rom com ever made, it stars Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as Harry and Sally along with the late Bruno Kirby and the late Carrie Fisher with a script from Nora Ephron who was nominated for an Oscar for her work. The film follows the title characters from the time they meet in Chicago and share a drive to New York City through twelve years of chance encounters in New York, and addresses the question "Can men and women ever just be friends?" It also features an excellent soundtrack full of standards and new interpretations of classic songs from Harry Connick Jr. and his trio. Steve and John go thru the movie scene by scene and break down the direction, acting, storylines, cinematography, score, themes, message, philosophical debates and more.

| 0:44.2 | I mean, frankly, I hate the reason. I'm sick to my stomach over the reason and deeply upset about the reason. |
| 0:50.4 | But you and I have been talking about redoing when Harry met Sally literally for years. It's one of our earliest episodes. And it was a good episode for us at the time. But there's so much more, I have to say, I'm sure there's so much more you have to say. So I'm excited to give this the full cinefiles treatment. Absolutely. And it's kind of ironic that we're doing this right after Annie Hall. We hadn't planned on doing it right after Annie Hall, but of course, there's a lot of connections between the two movies. So sadly, the reasons we're doing it, as you said, Steve, not the greatest reasons. But for our show, it seems to be lining up in an interesting way, almost kismid in a way to uh, to discuss this film right after Annie Hall. |
| 1:28.1 | But yes, the reasons are horrific and sad for everybody all around. Yeah, I mean, I agree. Having these come almost right after each other has definitely put a lot of thoughts in my mind.
