Summary
KEY WORD: “BODY RECOMP”
In today's episode we give you the seven things we wish we knew when we started in fitness so you can save time, money and energy.
1- Avoid the comparison trap
- Don't let others influence your training so easily
- Kali muscle example.
2- Newbie gains are real, take advantage
- First little while you are primed for growth
- Some guys only hitting chest and biceps first while, then it’ll take forever to balance back and legs.
- You won’t be able to get this period back unless you fully detrain again
3- Flexible dieting does wonders and is most sustainable.
4- Health is #1 and this should be a life long process.
- Healthy foods, cardio, etc, so much more than just being huge.
5- Be analytical about training and nutrition
- Tracking weights, overall workouts, macros, etc goes such a long way
- This sets you up for life, understanding macros within food choices.
*Our spreadsheet is a perfect example
6- Less is often more
- “It's not about doing more, it's about doing less, but better.”
7- Supplements are just supplements & coaching is a WAY better investment.
Thanks for listening! We genuinely appreciate every single one of you listening.

| 0:00.0 | What's going on, everyone. Welcome to another episode of the fit, healthy, and most of all happy podcast. I'm our coach and host Josh here with his co-host and co-coach KG and I'm on the microphone. Today we're giving you all the things we wish we knew when we started lifting some of the mistakes we made and hopefully we can save you from making them so make sure you listen to this episode even if you've |
| 0:21.3 | been going for a few months a year two years a bunch of years there's probably a chance here making a lot |
| 0:26.0 | of these mistakes you know now that we're 10 years plus of lifting of being in fitness health |
| 0:30.8 | and happiness and like you know it's just awesome to reflect on what was really good where i maybe |
| 0:35.9 | wasted a bit of time and how to improve and we're just really excited to kind of get that started for you. So what's number one, Kyle? Yeah. And number one is just, and this is honestly one of the most, well, they're all super important. So take notes and listen up. But it's just avoiding the comparison trap. Now, there are still, to this day, like it just, I guess Instagram, you know, wasn't as powerful and just social media wasn't as crazy back in the, you know, beginning stages, but I feel like more now than ever, just people are constantly comparing themselves and just, you know, looking to see what other people are doing. And like, it's just, it's going to eat away at you. And, like, this kind of brings me into one of the biggest mistakes of like letting others influence your training, um, because of the comparison trap because of just like constantly checking out what TikTok is showing. And, you know, TikTok obviously wasn't around when we had started lifting. But now, more than ever, like just there's a lot of kind of cool advice and some good stuff. But for the most part, I think a lot of it is just who how can I get the most views and how can I kind of put the most kind of nonsense out there |
| 1:30.5 | that people are going to share and that's where it gets very challenging is people are constantly thinking they need to change up and try all these crazy exercises that don't do stuff because of you know the instagram post or like whatever it is and comparing themselves and thinking because there was this bikini competitor They're thinking that they need to change it up and, you know, compete and follow their diet and do this thing. |
| 1:47.8 | And, you know, compete and follow their diet and do this thing. And, you know, I'll never forget back in the day when I started to follow. You know, I think I got a lot of stuff from YouTube. And I remember there were some big YouTubers. A lot of them, you know, were on on steroids and just on these, you know, just unachievable physique, just absolutely crazy. And I'd see some of the things that they would say. I'm like, oh, you know, I got to try this and I'll get as big as him. And, you know, just unachievable physique, just absolutely crazy. And I'd see some of the |
| 2:01.0 | things that they would say. I'm like, oh, you know, I got to try this and I'll get as big as him. And, |
| 2:04.7 | you know, you start to see some supplements that they're taking and some of the different strategies they have. And you're like, you realize that that actually has nothing to do with it. And there was a guy, he's still around. |
| 2:13.2 | I don't even know what he does, |
| 2:13.9 | but Cali Muscle, |
| 2:14.7 | he would always talk about doing quarter reps |
| 2:16.5 | and half reps and, |
| 2:17.7 | you know, |
| 2:17.9 | all this other stuff. |
| 2:18.7 | And that's what he did on his videos. |
| 2:20.2 | And, you know, |
| 2:20.8 | I'd see all this stuff. |
| 2:21.5 | I'm like oh i got to try this if if this is going to make him this big then then i got to do it and then you realize that that's not actually what you know makes them kind of who they are and stuff like that like people will share these glute things as well and you know just band it and you know you think |
| 2:34.2 | that that's what's going to get there so long story short do not let others influence your training |
| 2:38.2 | do the right stuff you know obviously what is right is kind of complicated and you know we could |
| 2:42.6 | spend another podcast talking about but avoid the comparison trap don't let others influence your |
