Welcome to the My Buddy Green podcast. I'm Jason Wackeb, founder and co-CEO of My Buddy Green,

and your host. Riot Holiday is a prolific bestselling author of numerous books,

including the obstacles the way, ego is the enemy, the daily stoic, and the number one

0:16.6

New York Times bestseller stillness is the key. And he's back on the show today to discuss his

0:23.5

latest must-read, which will surely also be another bestseller. Discipline is destiny,

0:29.9

the power of self-control. Riot, welcome back. Yeah, thanks for having me.

Always love your books, always great to have you on the show. I love how you set the stage for

0:40.7

this book. You start off by writing, we have so much freedom. When you're, if you're bored,

0:47.2

you can travel. If you hate your job, you can change it. If you crack, if crave it, you can have

1:13.3

we live where you can, where you have things that, you know, a French king 400 years ago would have

1:20.7

found unfathomable and even out of their reach. So it's wonderful that we have all these things.

1:28.2

And in fact, even the American system, right? The American system was designed to basically say,

1:33.5

people should be able to largely do whatever they want. But when the founders come up with this idea,

1:41.4

there was no part of them that thought that people should do whatever they want whenever they want,

1:46.4

whenever they want it. The purpose of freedom and success and abundance is to empower you the

1:54.0

individual to take control of your own life and to set reasonable limits on what you do and don't

2:01.5

do. We get this profoundly wrong. I tend to write about the Stoics, but as far as the epicureans

2:09.5

are concerned, you know, they're seen as these sort of lovers of pleasure. But what I love, the
