Summary

On the fourth episode of Trail Tales, I talk with Mikey Brenkus, who nearly completed the entire Appalachian Trail this past summer. We talk about how his bad diet contributed to him not being able to complete the trail, the controversial subject of yellow-blazing, and how he raised over 3000 dollars for a friend who was suffering from ALS.  Like what you hear? We get into a fundraiser that Mikey did.

0:44.3

He raised a lot of money, which is really, really fucking cool.

0:48.3

We talk about some of his food choices, which, in his own words, had a very negative effect on his through hike and we even get

0:55.8

into a bit of a controversial topic in the hiking community that is the topic of yellow blazing

1:01.2

or skipping sections of the trail and still counting it as a through hike. I gotta say,

1:07.4

Mikey comes out kind of strong at the beginning of that part of our conversation and he kind of has an

1:13.1

aggressive comment at the beginning there and if that pisses you off at all, if that offends you at all,

1:19.9

I urge you to listen to the whole part of that conversation before you judge, before you make any

1:24.8

judgments because we do give credit to the other side of the issue as well

1:30.0

and I think we talk about it pretty thoroughly and I just really hope that doesn't alienate

1:35.8

anybody from listening to the rest of the show. To be honest, I almost thought about not including

1:39.8

it in the episode but I'm trying to keep this as real as I can. I'm trying to just put this shit out

1:45.5

there for everybody, so I decided at the end of the day, I was going to leave it in. He said it.

1:50.7

I didn't tell him to say it, so it is what it is. Anyways, before we get into it, like every single

1:57.3

episode, I got to say, if you want to contact me for whatever reason,
