Hello and welcome to Real Crime Profile. I'm Laura Richards, victim-Africa analyst, founder and director of Paladin National Stalking Advocacy Service, and also co-creator and co-producer on CBS's show, The Case of Jombe Ne Ramsey. And with me today is...

Jim Clemente, retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent and Profile Reformer New York City Prosecutor and also co-creator and producer on CBS's The Case of Jombe Ne Ramsey.

So today, as you know, we are going to be continuing with the case of Meredith Kertcher. And we certainly spent some time reflecting on this case and looking at what our followers on Twitter are saying, as well as Lisa's been looking at and interacting with everyone on Facebook.

1:40.0

And from talking to Jim and Lisa, we feel as a team, we really want to do justice to this case for Meredith and her family. And we said at the very start, we wanted to do a deep dive into Meredith's life and who she was to find out how she died.

1:55.0

And we know that her father wrote a fantastic book, which I've certainly just finished. It's called Meredith, Our Daughters Murder and the Heartbreaking Quest for the Truth.

2:06.0

And this really does color Meredith and bring her to life of her character, the people that were in her life.

2:13.0

So we want to really bring back the honor to Meredith, bring her to life, the family's experience also of what happened and their plight throughout this case.

2:23.0

Because obviously there's been lots of twists and turns at court and this is really impacted on the family too.

2:29.0

And John Kertcher actually ends the book saying, you know, how could it be that she's overlooked in her own murder and she should have been a centerpiece of everything that happens given what happened to her and we at Real Crime Profile absolutely agree with that.

2:44.0

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, when we started the very beginning of Real Crime Profile, we started talking about the fact that there were TV shows about Real Crimes and they seemed to focus mainly on the bad guy, the people that are on the internet.

2:58.0

The people that are accused or convicted or acquitted of crimes as opposed to the people that were actually killed.

3:06.0

And what we know, of course, Laura, in criminal behavioral analysis is that victimology is critically important in understanding crime.

3:15.0

So we want to learn everything we possibly can about the victim. And that's part of why our focus is there. The other part is because they're human beings.

3:24.0

And for the most part, they've lost their lives in horrific ways and they didn't deserve that. And certainly now what we can do is give them back their stories, talk about their lives and give them the respect that was due to them that they didn't get in the first place.

3:47.0

Absolutely. And I always said, if you understand how someone lived, then you understand how they died. And one of the true centerpieces for us here is obviously the victim's voice.

3:57.0

But also really going back to the facts and the evidence and what really went on. And certainly that's where we want to take this because there's been lots of things that have been colored in across time.

4:10.0

And people have very entrenched views about what they think.

4:13.0

And there are definitely camps in all different places. And we just want to provide a real narrative that's based on fact and also color in who Meredith was because from afar, it can be very distracting to even get to who she was.

4:30.0

And so it's been great these past few weeks since we last recorded to read as much as I could about her, including some of John Kircher's book. I didn't read as much as you did.
