Summary

Had one of these DNA tests to optimise your diet & fitness? I have. These DNA testing kits are now everywhere and promise big things. To test athletic potential, to optimise diet, training & supplements, and more. But what does the science say, is there legitimacy in the claims? Do we know much about DNA right now, and what our genes say about us? And where does it sit on the ethical spectrum, telling people some of this data…

Hey everyone, Vancouver Radio, episode number 389. If I'm a little bit echoy today, it's because I'm in someone's spare room in a flat recording this on the fly.

But it doesn't matter.

0:13.4

Hopefully the content is everything that counts.

So I remember years ago in my fitness journey,

0:19.5

I came across gene testing.

0:21.9

So basically a dude went, hey I could show you how to eat

0:25.7

better and train exactly to your genes by doing a little test and basically we can advance your results. So bearing in mind

0:35.8

when I did this test I was probably about four or five years into my fitness journey so

0:42.0

it already worked out quite a bit already about my fitness. You know, I've just been doing stuff in the gym, learning what I enjoyed. And normally most of us train the way we either enjoy or the way that we get results.

1:20.1

And I sat there and was like, okay, that's cool, but I don't actually like any of that cardio.

1:25.6

Like I play rugby, I lift weights, now and again I'll go for a run, but you know, I'm not overly

1:30.9

enthused about anything longer than about 40 minutes.

1:33.6

And then it didn't really expand much on the nutrition because it was kind of early days

1:39.4

for nutrition and genetic testing and then the kind of other training stuff like this wasn't really enough there

1:46.1

now from the reports that we see online gene testing has come some way in theory from what people tell us but today we're going to

1:56.7

explore that and this is probably the point where I should introduce or say hello

2:00.7

to Tom. Yeah I I am actually here.
