Summary

DM "SUMMER SHRED" to IG @ColossusFit enter our 60-day shredding challenge (Deadline is May 8th)

If we get enough positive feedback from this episode, we'll make a part 2 with more recommended books!

This has been a HIGHLY requested podcast, so here we are. As you know, we're huge readers and today we go over our top 10 books. We cover a few lessons learned, and talk about why they're our favourites.

Listed points:
1- Atomic Habits - James Clear
-Simple guide to building good habits and breaking bad ones
-Our habits follow a 4-Step Habit Loop which includes: cue, craving, response and reward.

2- Compound Effect - Darren Hardy
-Small, seemingly insignificant actions can lead to huge results over time. You don't need to do anything dramatic or drastic to achieve your goals- make a few small changes every day and see the radical difference.

3- Stillness is the Key - Ryan Holliday
- People don’t understand that the hardest thing is actually doing something that is close to nothing. It demands all of you… there is no object behind you. It’s just you.
-In sports, coaches speak about “the process” this play, this still, this rep. Not just because this moment is special, but because you can’t do your best if your mind is elsewhere.
-A study showed that subjects would rather give themselves an electric shock then be bored for more than a few minutes.

4- 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Steven Covey
-Be Proactive
-Begin with the End in Mind
-Think Win-Win
-Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
-Sharpen the Saw

5- How To Win Friends and Influence People - Dale Carnegie
- Become genuinely interested in other people.
- Smile.
- Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
- Be a good listener.
- Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
- Make the other person feel important – and do it sincerely.

6- Success Principles - Jack Canfield
- If you want to be successful, you have to take 100% responsibility for everything that you experience in your life.
- Everything you think, say, and do needs to become intentional and aligned with your highest purpose, your values, and your goals.
- To achieve desired outcomes, one must replace complaining with making requests and taking action.

7- 10x Rule- Grant Cardone
1) you should set targets for yourself that are 10X greater than what you believe you can achieve and 2) you should take actions that are 10X greater than what you believe are necessary to achieve your goals. The biggest mistake most people make in life is not setting goals high enough.

8- Can’t hurt me- David Goggins
-Inspiring story of coming from nothing, to pushing full potential.
-Self talk without the work is just a lie.
-The 40% Rule is the idea that when our mind is telling us to quit, that our body has actually only used up 40% of it's potential.

Thanks for listening! We genuinely appreciate every single one of you listening.

You know, we just want to keep giving back on top of making these killer episodes. But without further ado, we're going to jump in today's episode. Welcome to the fit, healthy, and most of all happy podcast. I'm your coach and host, Josh, here with? Coach KG! Let's go. Yeah. Kyle, we're in a library today. It's a reading list. Yeah. We're coming at you with eight books. So I don't know why Kyle's

1:12.7

screaming in a library. He's about to get beat by the librarian if he's not careful. But we're coming

1:17.1

at you with eight books. And we're not just giving you a reading list. We're going to surmise them

1:21.1

because it's a blessing and a curse. As someone who's read hundreds of self-growth books at this point, it's some books, you know, you're kind of like, my gosh, you could have said this to me in a few paragraphs. Like, why couldn't this be broken down? But obviously a lot of it is to get to some deeper topics. So I've read some incredible books. I've read some not so incredible books, but these are Kyle's personal eight favorites. Some of them are also my favorite, so I'll be taking over the ones that are also kind of crossover. If this episode does really well, I'll be happy to share kind of my books as well, because a lot of these books have changed your lives, have helped us grow, I've really broken down some amazing points. So we're not only going to tell you them, but we're going to give you the biggest takeaways that you can go ahead and implement into your life. What's numera uno? Yeah, so honestly, I've got a list of like probably about 30 and it was very hard to pick eight. Honestly, just once again, like these are absolutely incredible. So you're going to want to take a notepad out. You're going to want to take notes. These are ones that I've more so listened to. A couple of them I've also read as well. You know, you can do it through Audible. You can, you know, buy the book. You know, some people recommend doing both at the same time to just be more efficient, but that's totally up to you. So number one is going to be Atomic Habits by James Clear. And you've heard us talk about it quite often. But I think the reason I love this one so much is because it's like kind of like a full on like lifestyle change.

2:36.4

It's like I truly believe that habits are just what create just who we are, what we do, what we stand for, like what are consistent, you know, just kind of like day to day things are. And that's in my opinion, one of the most important things you know you can learn about

2:50.8

you know how to stay positive how to do everything out like other things that are also great but just if you don't have the right habits in place it's just it's it's you're not going to just be as successful as you want to be right so once again it's just a simple guide to building good habits but also breaking the bad ones and I just truly believe like we have so many things if you think of every single thing that you do day to day between brushing your teeth,

3:11.0

between, you know, going for a walk, between, you know, eating meals, making just, you know, food decisions. Like there's thousands of them made within the day if you actually pay attention to them. So this does a great job of just, you know, essentially breaking all that down and also just talking about like the four-step habit loop, which is going to be, and I've talked about this a few times, but, you know, a cue, a craving, a response and a reward. And especially for anyone that struggles with like eating patterns or just, you know, making the wrong decision potentially like food wise or just, you know, anything at all. It helps you kind of break that down and understand why you made that decision and helps you reframe how to change that. And I just truly believe between this and the power of habit, like two of the greatest habit books, you know, if you haven't read one of these, you're definitely missing out and I highly recommend it. Yeah, atomic habits is such a powerful book. Like when someone says, hey, I want to get into reading or I want to listen to an audiobook, whatever it may be, this is, I find the best one to kind of implement. Like, habits really craft decisions. They craft, you know, just literally a response to life, right? And when you have that default habit that is a positive habit, you know, it's very powerful. Like little things, like for instance, waking up on time, that could be hours, days, weeks of your life, you know, where you could be up doing more productive things, feeling control of your day. Like, you know, even going to the gym, like making it happen to be in the gym five times a week, you know, your entire life. Like you're going to save so much money and time and heartache and pain down the road in terms of your

4:31.7

health because you're going to be optimizing your physique. It's something that's normal to you.

4:36.0

Exercise is part of your routine. So, you know, this is a big one because habits affect every

4:40.6

component in every area of life. And if you're overlooking it, you're definitely missing out.

4:44.2

And this is one I'd really recommend reading through because this one to me isn't as repetitive. It really breaks down different components in different areas of life where it is effective. So this is a huge read. If you haven't read it, I promise you will get a lot from it. So number two is very similar to number one. This is like the OG atomic habits I like to call it. This is a compound effect by Darren Hardy. And what I love about this is Darren, you know, I don't know him personally, just seems like a really great guy. And I find it really reads in a very, like it's, it's easy to digest. I find it some of them can be a little bit intimidating, you know, and they're really catered to super high achievers or intense business people.

5:21.5

And this is one of the first books I read where I'm like, wow, like I love the examples of

5:25.9

this and how applicable it is just to anyone, no matter where they are in life. And, you know,

5:30.7

once again, it truly comes down to that the small, seemingly insignificant actions can lead to

5:35.3

huge results over time. And it's more so that you don't

5:38.1

need to do drastic, dramatic, crazy efforts. It's more about doing the right things day in and day out

5:43.3

and aiming to do better. So it really does kind of follow atomic habits. Being honest, I'd say atomic

5:48.9

habits is probably the better book. But because compound effect is something that really helped

5:53.3

change my life and help me really grow and develop, I feel a little bit of a connection to that book. And that's one I still often send people. I love giving gifts to people that are struggling like books as gifts or friends or whatever it may be because I find there's just there's so much value in them. And even just making the habit of reading every day is something that's
