Summary

When we're tired many of us are programmed to reach for caffeine as the solution, but is it always the solution? With the modern world we live in are we missing the bigger picture, are we using the other 'pick me up' tools available to us?

Good morning, how an earth are you doing? It's Benkuma Radio back with another Short Sharp Monday show.

So today I want to talk about being tired.

0:10.0

It's obviously something no one ever really wants but it happens right we get a bad night's sleep for whatever reason life catches up with us stress builds up on us

0:21.3

It happens to all of us, it happens to me, and it's something that quite honestly some of the time we just need to manage, but the thing is I think there's a habit loop here that isn't really serving people now if we think about how modern society is evolved

0:39.1

what happens is we often feel tired and go, I'll have a cup of coffee or a cup of tea or whatever our

0:47.7

chosen sort of liquid-based pick me up is. And the reason I want to bring this up is there's many many many

0:54.4

many reasons for us to be tired. So if you think about our normal daily work

1:00.8

environment it could be that we work in front of a computer screen and

1:04.8

our brain, our eyes has just been staring too long a big flat white screen. It could

1:11.6

be that your day so far has just been really, really busy and your

1:15.9

brain has been taking in just like loads of input, input, input and it just needs to rest,

1:21.3

it needs to stop. And that's one of the reasons I've talked before

1:24.4

about the value of taking a lunch break and just actually given your brain a

1:29.6

little bit of time to just rest and recalibrate and be ready to take more information in.

1:35.1

It could be that you've just been on one really big task like let's say you're

1:40.9

doing an assignment or a project or just a big piece of work and

1:45.0

you've just literally been staring at it for too long.

1:49.2

Your brains kind of run out of problem solving juice. The reason I want to bring all this up is I don't want a

1:55.9

learned habit loop which is all I'm tired all I need caffeine whether it's tea coffee energy drink to be the

2:05.8

loop that we always reach for so I don't always think it's a positive thing think

2:10.2

about some of the times you've been tired, your brain's been fatigued, you know, you just

2:15.0

wanted to feel better and you've had a cup of coffee and it just hasn't done anything.
