My name is Doug, and this, like the singer said, is Doug loves minis,

the show that thinks the people of Traverse City, Michigan,

are some of the nicest people anywhere,

coming to you from a hotel room in T.C.

About an hour before I'll be moderating the comedy panel at the City Opera House,

because there's nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than just get up and go have a discussion about comedy and comedy filmmaking.

On Saturday, August 1st, 2015.

Thursday was day three of the Traverse City Film Festival, and I saw three movies I hadn't seen, and one that I had.

Speaking of movies I have seen, don't forget that I'm interrupting speed tonight at midnight at the State Theater.

If you're anywhere near Traverse City, come on by.

First up was when I live my life Over Again, number 145 in the

Douglas Movies Challenge. It stars Christopher Walken as a formerly popular singer trying to stage a

comeback, and Amber Hurd as his troubled but talented daughter. It kind of feels like a filmed play and has lots of funny lines,

but it's the first film at TCFF that I've seen this year that falls just short of a Doug

Diggs-it recommendation. Even though it's not unpleasurable, but it just kind of falls apart at the end with some silly

and pointless plot points.

But Doug Diggs Amber Heard, oh boy, what a cutie!

Number 146 is the first movie at this festival that I wished I didn't see, an absurdist, but more like just absurd, Swedish film called A Pigeon Sat on a Branch reflecting on Existence.

It's a series of occasionally funny but mostly slow and boring or downright disturbing sequences, each shot with a locked-down camera from one angle.

Like a series of troublesome plays.
