My name is Doug, and this is Doug Loves Minis, the show that thinks I might not see a bad movie at the Traverse City Film Festival, coming to you from a hotel room in Traverse City, Michigan on Thursday, July 30th, 2015.

Yesterday, on day two of the Traverse City Film Festival, I knocked off four movies, all documentaries.

Would have seen five, but I had to do at Douglas movies taping. First up, I went to a 9 a.m. screening

and a really nice little theater in T.C. called Biju by the Bay. Number 141 of the DL.M. 365 movies and

365 days challenge. Best of Enemies. It's about the televised debates during the Republican

and Democratic conventions in 1968 on ABC, the third-rated network that instead of,

decided, instead of showing gavel-to-gavel coverage of the conventions like the other networks,

they decided to air debates between right-winger William F. Buckley Jr. and left winger Gore Vidal.

Super entertaining look at two very smart men ripping into each other, and it also pretty much shows

the beginning of televised political debate as we know and hate or love it today.

Doug digs it.

Doug also digs movie number 142 hot type, 150 years of the nation.

Another doc, this one is about a magazine I have never read, but we'll probably agree with a lot of what it says, The Nation.

It's a look at the Lefty Mags history, its editors, its interns, and the kinds of stories the magazine covers.

Directed by two-time Oscar winner Barbara Koppel.

The next movie I saw, movie number 143, is no Oscar, but damn, it was a lot of fun.

Raiders, exclamation point, the greatest fan film ever made is about some 11-year-olds

who decided to remake Raiders of the Lost Ark shot for shot.

And it's fucking amazing how close they came to pulling it off.
