Summary

William Pullen is a running psychotherapist, yeah, I had no idea what that was either. But what ensued is one of my most enjoyable podcasts yet. I delve into Will's journey into his job, explore the power that movement has in giving people emotional momentum, we share stories that have empowered ourselves, and we breech the core topic of "can running help combat depression", and if so, how, and why?

Well, you're for a surprise, I know.

So you know I'm a big fan of movement. We've had various coaches on this

fitness industry we're very good at bracketing off movement into singular functions.

0:36.7

We maybe look at weight training and we maybe think of it in terms of building muscle,

0:40.9

but in fact weight training serves several functions like injury prevention

0:45.3

and keeping, you know, just retaining muscle supporting metabolic rate, supporting hormonal function

0:51.8

and that's kind of a rabbit hole we're going to go down today.

0:55.0

We're going to be talking about movement from a perspective that I hope we've never talked about before and

1:05.6

Ben hello.

1:07.6

So let's raise the first question because I have no idea what you're going to say what is a

1:15.0

running psychotherapist well it's a good question because there aren't many of

1:20.2

us in the world it's quite simply a psychotherapist who runs with their clients. In my case, I've developed a particular approach to psychotherapy that so it's a sort of technique but there are other running therapists

1:35.0

out there who just conduct regular therapy but while on the run. So hang on

1:39.8

people pay to run with you and you get paid for that.

1:45.0

People.

1:48.0

I'm not a personal trainer and I'm not a running coat.

1:51.0

People pay me both in my office and when I'm out doing my running therapy.
