| 0:18.1 | Welcome to the happiness podcast. I'm Dr. Robert Puff. Have you ever had one of those moments that is just exquisite, beyond words, incredibly beautiful, and hard to imagine that it will ever come again? |
| 0:19.8 | I bet we've all had these moments. |
| 0:22.2 | They may not come often, but when they come they are powerful |
| 0:26.0 | and incredibly memorable. For some of us, we may have them often. For others of us, they may only come once or twice in our |
| 0:34.9 | entire lives, but when they come, like I said, they are breathtaking. Let me share one with you that I had recently. I was on vacation to |
| 0:46.4 | Yellowstone National Park, which is here in the United States. It's one of the |
| 0:50.6 | most beautiful places in the world and they have what are called hot springs. |
| 0:55.0 | These are either large or small pools of water that are very hot. |
| 1:00.0 | They're able to maintain this high level of heat because hot springs feed into the lava below |
| 1:07.8 | and the lava or magma heats up the water. They can come in very different colors, but there was one that I saw that was |
| 1:17.0 | truly breathtaking. It was so deep, it was bluish blue imaginable I just even can't describe how blue it was |
| 1:27.8 | it was like magical and it was again like I breathtaking. I remember standing there and going back to it another day because it was just so incredibly blue, |
| 1:38.0 | that I just wanted to see it again. And like I said, it took my breath away and it was so beautiful that for me it |
| 1:48.2 | created within me called a peak experience an experience of joy and bliss that is very hard to put in the words. |
| 1:57.6 | But I also remember walking away from the hot springs and thanking life for this most magical experience and then letting it go. |
| 2:08.8 | Because one of the secret ingredients of happiness is letting experiences go when we have them. We have a |
| 2:16.8 | tendency if we're not careful to compare past experiences to current |
| 2:21.8 | experiences and sometimes when we have these most magical experiences, |
| 2:26.7 | it is very unlikely that our daily life will ever compare to these magical experiences. So if we don't let them go, we will suffer. And if we're not |
| 2:38.9 | careful and let these experiences go, there can be so many ways that we can suffer in our lives. |
| 2:46.4 | Let me give a few examples. I remember once talking to a man who loved to play football or as we say here in the United States |
| 2:56.4 | soccer. Well 20 years earlier he had had a perfect game. |
