Summary

In this episode we interview John and Brooke McLay. John served for 14 years as an employee of the LDS Church Education System (CES). In this capacity he served as: a seminary teacher and principal, an institute teacher and director, a BYU Education Week speaker and an EFY Director. John also served as a member of a stake high counsel, and was serving in a bishopric during the months leading up to his decision to leave the LDS Church. John and Brooke resigned their membership of the LDS Church in August of 2011. This is their story.

1:03.0	is a special interview and why it's interesting. I guess I'll just say it. John McClay was
1:10.6	a CES employee, a church, an LDS church education system employee for 14 years. He, so he
1:18.4	definitely taught, definitely taught institute, seminary, was an institute director and is
1:26.4	will learn that's not just sort of an individual job and calling and responsibility but it's
1:33.2	also very much something that the couple sort of interviews for and obtains and executes
1:38.0	on together. So John and Brooke worked you know with CES or 4 CES for 14 years and a few
1:46.8	months ago because of crisis of faith and other issues that we'll get into resigned their
1:56.0	membership from the church. And so this is going to be a Mormon Stories Podcast but we're
2:02.7	also developing kind of a separate podcast focusing specifically on why people leave the LDS
