Today I'm talking with Heather Creekmore about body image, and I've shared on this podcast

before that this is something that I've struggled with over the years.

Heather wrote a book on body image called Compared to Who.

And I think she's had the nail on the head by bringing in a word that we often don't want to talk about.

But we're going to hear a lot about today.

It's a word idolatry.

Now, I think caring for our bodies is an important part of intimacy and marriage

and just being a good steward of what God has given us. But there is a line we can cross

when we spend so much time worrying about weight or wishing we could change our thighs or our

nose that we begin to believe that these things can bring happiness or contentment.

And this is a treadmill that will leave us exhausted and totally focused on ourselves.

I've been there before.

And you know, this idea doesn't just apply to body image, but to any aspect of ourselves

that starts to consume us.

We can get caught up on how we're viewed by others at work or by what other parents think

about us from our kids' school or by anyone who looks at our social media account. So keep an open mind as you're

listening today and ask the Lord, is there something in my life that I'm pursuing more than I'm

pursuing my relationship with you? I can tell you with confidence that that's the kind of prayer

that God will always answer.
