How are you doing today? I'm great. It's

gorgeous weather, nice day. Yeah, it's great. It's great up here in

Westchester. So today we're doing the second of the five-part

podcast series on the natural stages of growth and-part podcast series on The Natural Stages of Growth, and today's

podcast will focus on the second stage, Partnership Writing. If you missed last

week's podcast, you can find it on the web on the blog or on iTunes where we've got it

set up. And that one was focused on the jot it down stage of development for your

earlier writers, the ones between five and seven or eight. for your Why don't you tell us about it? I'd be happy to.

The second level of development for kids in writing is called partnership writing.

Partnership writing is the term that I use in my materials to indicate that writing is co-created

between the parent and the child. So whereas in the jot it downstage your

child was talking and you were writing you are literally

transcribing their exact words onto paper. Partnership writing is the beginning of

that journey where the child will do some transcription, the parent will still do some

transcription, some of the words contributed to the writing will be the

child's, but amazingly some of the words will be the parents. This is the moment where you will

see the most interaction between you and your child. Well but isn't

brave writer focused on developing the child's writing voice.

How would I know it's really the child's voice if a lot of the parents' words are making

it into the child's final writing product?
