So today we're in the middle of our five-part series focusing on the natural stages of growth and

writing and today's episode is the third in that series and it is about the

faltering ownership phase. Excellent.

So why don't you tell us a bit about it?

Well, if you recall, those of you who have been following along on our podcast,

we had the Jot It Down stage as the first stage of development and that's for our pre-readers and very, very early writers.

Then we used a session to discuss the partnership writing stage of development where parents help their kids actually get the words

that are living inside of them to the page.

The faltering ownership stage is that phase of development where the kids are finally tackling the blank

page by themselves with a lot less help from you. It's not that your role is going

to go away, it's that it's going to change in how it gets expressed.

So what's the age range for faltering ownership kids?

Usually you'll be thinking that these kids are in late elementary school junior high somewhere between 10 and 12
