Hello Unshakenshaken Saints, welcome back. I'm Jared Halverson. This is unshaken and this is a glorious week to study the Book of Mormon because we get the sermon at the temple, which is the Nephite version of the Sermon on the mount. This is as good as it comes as far as preaching is concerned. Perhaps the most famous and important sermon that's

ever been given. When I was at div School, there's an entire field called homiletics.

And homiletics is the study of preaching.

In our church, we don't even give sermons, we just call them talks,

because sometimes that's all we're able to do just get up there and talk good enough

but I met people that were getting PhDs in homiletics and it was amazing just the the power with which they could preach.

I remember I was in a class on theological homiletics

where we'd study scriptural texts to coax out the theology,

and then how do you preach that theology?

And it was so funny, especially some of my African-American friends,

preaching in the Black Church is incredible.

It's like hearing Martin Luther King speak every week and I remember

some of my friends we'd be studying some text and they find some little nugget of theology,

some doctrinal truth and sometimes they just look at that and go, oh,

oh, that'll preach, that'll preach.

And ever since it's just been this fun way of studying scripture and you find something marvelous some little gem and it's like oh I

could turn a whole talk I could bring a whole talk out of that that'll preach well

almost every phrase in the sermon on the mount, slash sermon at the temple, will preach.

And who better to preach it than Jesus Christ himself?

I did, I did some homework and looked back at when I taught this four years ago and just the portion where we covered

third nef by 12 1314 which is the sermon part took three hours and then I went and looked at the New Testament version that we did
