Hello, welcome back to Scripture Central. We're so excited to talk about Third Nephi today.

I'm Lynn Hilton Wilson.

I'm Jack Welch, and like we said, last time we're going to pick up with chapter 12 and do all the way to the end of chapter 16 today,

as Jesus speaks to the people and his disciples there at Bountiful.

And this is very similar.

Some people make the correlation between the sermon on the Mount.

But we want to emphasize this as a different sermon.

It's to a different people.

It's the sermon at the temple.

And there's a lot of similarities.

But Jack's done some interesting research on this.

Well, I have, and it's been something that's borne great fruit for me academically and spiritually

for over 40 years. In many ways, I may be best known for discovering chiasmus in the Book of Mormon,

and many people have been able to go and find and make use of that principle.

But I would have to say that the recognition of the temple pattern in what's going on in Jesus' words here and his actions in 3rd Nephi,

chapter 11 to 18, mean more to me, and I think are maybe more sublime

than the discovery of chiasmus.

And let me tell you a little bit about how this discovery came about.

It was back in the 1980s when I was a young professor at B.Y.U.

And I was teaching Book of Mormon classes almost every semester as an assignment to be a good

citizen at the university.

And we had started farms, and we often were asked to answer questions that came up frequently.
