There's a very popular exercise that's great for relieving tension and anxiety from the body.

It's called progressive muscle relaxation and it involves making yourself comfortable, lying down or sitting in a chair.

Then working your way around your body,

tensing and relaxing one group of muscles after another.

In this podcast I'd like to share a shortcut version

that you can use anywhere and anytime you feel anxious or you feel that there's tension

building up in your body. And all you need to do is find yourself somewhere to sit or you won't be disturbed for three or four minutes.

And then clench both of your hands into fists as tightly as you can.

Notice the tension in your hands.

Feel it.

Look at your hands.

See your knuckles,

knuckles becoming white.

And see and feel the tension travel up your arm.

Squeeze even harder,

and put everything you have into squeezing your fists as tightly as you can.

Now close your eyes and feel the tension fully.

Take a deep breath in and see if you can squeeze your hands any tighter still.
