Have you come across in your research

as anytime where somebody was called into the 12 apostles

or any form of the 70 who has declined that call?

And if so, what are the circumstances?

I'm specifically mostly interested in modern times,

but even the earlier church.

If I remember correctly,

Reed Smith, who was a U.S. Senator,

declined to be a counselor to Hebrew J. Grant.

And I'm trying to think of any occasion other than that

when somebody has declined the offer.

And I don't remember any others.

And President Grant did not begrudge Reed Smith
