When I first went to the FBI in New York to the team that you were joined, right?

The joint child sexual exploitation task force and told them the story and gave them evidence.

And at the end of that, an interesting thing happened.

It's incredibly important to understand what goes on, what is grooming,

and how it creates this compliant victimization in children.

retired FBI profiler former, a New York City prosecutor, and writer producer of CBS's criminal

minds. And Francie, unfortunately, can't be with us today. She's a little bit under the weather

and preparing for a very important trip on a very important case. So I thought I would do this one

on my own because we have an extremely special guest today. Steven Mills, author of Chosen,

a memoir of stolen boyhood. Thank you, Steven, for being here. And it's amazing to meet someone

like you who, like me, is a survivor. And not that it was easy, but it's great that you're here

and we can talk about this today. So we'll start off with what is your profession, Steve?

I am, for most of my adult life, I've been a public interest advocate, helping mount campaigns for

groups that work on human rights, the liberties, and mostly the environment. I've been working

with the Natural Resources Defense Council for almost 40 years now. And I'm also an author.

I wrote a previous book called Next of Kin, which is about chimpanzees and American sign language.

And then there's this new book, which has been weighing on me for decades and has finally

seen the light of day today, today, today, April 26th, when we're recording. And what Steve is

talking about is this book, Chosen, a memoir of stolen boyhood. And there you go, Steven Mills.

Well, the fact is, Steven, I know from personal experience how difficult it is to actually
