0:00.0	Welcome to the Elisa Childers podcast where we equip Christians to identify the core beliefs of historic Christianity, discern its counterfeits, and proclaim the gospel with clarity, kindness, and truth. And the Bible calls us as Christians to be salt and
0:22.7	light in the world. We are to bring that saltiness. We're to bring that light into our culture,
0:28.9	to hopefully change culture and protect people. And we are living in a time where culture is a bit
0:34.7	crazy. We have the redefinition of marriage. We have the redefinition
0:38.9	of what male and female is. We have people advocating for radical abortion policies. These are
0:44.7	Genesis 1 issues. These are creation ordinance issues. But our Christian witness isn't just
0:51.9	kept to those issues, but we as Christians should be able to speak on
0:56.2	everything from immigration policies to social justice. And that doesn't mean we can't have good
1:01.1	faith discussions on what those different policies should look like. But the principles behind
1:06.3	what's motivating so much of this, we as Christians, we have the authority of God's Word,
1:11.6	which we go to to inform us of what to think about some of these things. And we have a guest
1:16.4	today that has written a book called Toxic Empathy, How Progressives Exploit Christian Compassion.
1:22.8	It's Ali Bestucky. I'm a huge fan of Ali. I think she's one of the most courageous, biblically balanced voices out there.
1:31.2	And she takes a lot of hits. There are a lot of false narratives about her out there, but I think
1:36.7	she's doing a fabulous job. I loved this book. I endorsed this book. I said it's the book,
1:41.9	the book for this cultural moment. We're going to talk about some of those
1:45.5	issues today. What is toxic empathy? What does it mean when we look at how people on the more
1:51.6	progressive side of things, whether that be theologically, politically, ethically,
1:56.1	culturally, how they are influencing more conservative Christians to be silent, to be really quiet
2:02.5	about some of these topics and what the Bible has to say about how we should speak into
