So I prep for this week's cinephiles by sitting down and watching a movie with my whole family.

Something I wasn't able to do with movies like Goodfellas Now, or Reservoir Dogs.

But this week Cinephiles is a perfect family movie, and I can't tell you how excited I was to share

it with mine.

However, one thing I didn't expect was how often my five-year-old son Jackson, who was sitting on my lap,

would turn around and ask, Dad, are you crying?

To which, of course, the answer was, yes. The truth is is there are very few movies that make me cry more

consistently than Frank Capra's 1946 classic It's a Wonderful Life

starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.

This is both John and my all-time favorite Christmas movie,

and the only one I can think of that qualifies as one of the truly great films.

In fact, AFI ranks it number 11 on their list of the 100

greatest American films of all time. For its unique story, its performances,

and most of all, its powerful message about sacrifice, kindness, and the true nature of

heroism.

There is, in my opinion, no better holiday movie and no movie we need more today than this one.
