Just south and a little to the east of Europe,

sits the Middle Eastern nation of Syria,

a predominantly Muslim country with the population

of some around 17 million people.

Seven years ago, pre-current civil war,

that population was closer to 23 million people.

that is a huge population drop for only seven years

and exactly why there is an international

Syrian refugee crisis going on right now.

Boarded by Turkey to the north,

Iraq to the east, Lebanon, Jordan,

and Israel to the south,

and the Mediterranean Sea to the west,

Syria is a nation that was once part of the Silk Road,

a nation rich in culture and history,

one of its largest cities to Damascus,

maybe the oldest, continuously inhabited city in the world,

with some type of settlement dating all the way back

to 9,000 BC.

Thousands of years before humans developed the ability
