So the manhunt for Abdul Azidi, the suspect in last week's horrific

alkali attack in Clapham, South London is still ongoing as we're recording this.

Tom, a lot of questions has been raised as to how the hell this man managed to stay in the country.

He is a convicted sex offender. He had been

rejected for asylum twice and yet still he was able to commit this horrific crime?

No, completely.

And I know that this week, a lot of the focus has been on the fact that he converted to Christianity.

It didn't take long for people to work out that that probably wasn't as clear-cut as it seemed.

But as you say, even without that, there's this catalogue of failures.

Why someone can be approved for an asylum claim after having been convicted of two sexual

offenses in this country, I think Beggar's belief.

I don't think it matters how pro or anti- asylum you are.

I don't see any argument, any sane argument certainly

for thinking that that person deserves shelter and support in this

country but it's been fascinating how politicians and commentators have

struggled to make that really simple common-sensical point. We saw so many different examples of this, so it started off on I believe it was the Thursday

evening last week when it first started to emerge about his asylum history and the fact
