Republicans are so deeply concerned about the welfare of our children that in the last

nine months they've banned 1600 books, half of them in Texas.

One of the latest to be banned is a book called Everywhere Baby, which was written for toddlers.

The author speculates that the book was banned because of one illustration which depicts

two men, Huggay.

Children's books being censored also include biographies of people like Duke Ellington and Supreme

Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

Many red states, American history is also being censored.

Of course, to one degree or another, American history has always been revisionist, but the

goal now seems to be to render it unrecognizable.

More fiction than truth where white Americans have always been the good guys and black Americans

have always had equal rights.

In Florida, Florida and Texas seemed to be in a perpetual race to the bottom.

The Department of Education rejected dozens of math textbooks.

The stated reason was that they contained prohibited topics like social and emotional learning

and critical race theory.

A quick aside, no K through 12 textbooks anywhere in this country contain any mention of critical

race theory, which again is an advanced legal theory, positing race as a social construct,

which it is that analyzes approaches to racial justice in America.

Social emotional learning, on the other hand, is or should be an integral part of how we

teach all children not to be horrible people.
