Summary
How do you find self-compassion when everything is falling to pieces? That's the listener question I'm answering in today's Ask Steph episode. We'll talk about why self-compassion can be so hard to access when we're in a challenging season, the mistaken belief that self-compassion removes accountability, and how we can start to cultivate more kindness and self-validation when we need it most.

| 0:00.0 | Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of On Attachment. In today's Ask Steff episode, I'm answering |
| 0:06.7 | the listener question of how do I find self-compassion when it feels like everything in my life |
| 0:13.8 | is falling apart? So first up, I'm sending so much love to the person who asked the question and |
| 0:18.7 | anyone else who feels like they're in a really |
| 0:21.6 | hard season. It's hard enough when one thing feels like it's falling to pieces, a relationship |
| 0:27.8 | or financially or work feels hard, friendships feel hard, maybe there's health stuff going on. |
| 0:36.0 | But when all of those things collide and it just |
| 0:39.2 | feels like you're in a bit of a disaster zone and you don't even know where to turn, |
| 0:44.1 | that's a lot to ask of your system. And it's really easy to just feel the sense of total defeat |
| 0:50.5 | and overwhelm and even hopelessness. So just know that if that's where you're at, |
| 0:55.6 | it makes sense that you would feel that way because that's what our system does when things |
| 0:59.8 | feel like too much to handle. We just kind of want to hide under the blankets and have someone |
| 1:05.2 | else deal with it because I don't think I have it in me. And this specific know, this specific piece around self-compassion sort of |
| 1:12.3 | implies that the person asking the question is responding to all of that stuff going on with |
| 1:17.8 | self-criticism or self-blame, self-flagellation, all of these other things that we can do by default, |
| 1:25.4 | if that's been part of our pattern, is to blame ourselves |
| 1:27.9 | when things go wrong and to assume that it's because, you know, we're broken or there's |
| 1:34.7 | something wrong with us for everything in our life to be falling to pieces. And I think that |
| 1:40.8 | we can't overstate the impact of social media on that because obviously |
| 1:47.3 | it feels almost trite to say it because it is something that's been said a million times. |
| 1:52.5 | But when we're so deep in comparison and we look at everyone else's lives that seem really shiny and everyone else is thriving and in a |
| 2:04.6 | happy relationship and having kids and all of the things. |
