| 1:22.5 | So I'm recording this episode a bit later than normal normally on a Sunday like today I'd get up somewhat early get a solid outline done of the show and have this recorded by you know six or seven in the evening so I could just chill but you know it's like 1130 right now and I'm admittedly moving a bit slow because in Chicago |
| 1:42.5 | This back week past weekends it was it was Lala Paloza if you know what that is it's a huge music festival kind of takes over downtown over four days it's like something crazy like 150,000 people coming to the city for it and it's pretty nuts and I used to go to Lala let's say quite aggressively I am a big electronic music fan and it used to be kind of just the highlight of my summer when I was in my like early 20s of course until the next day's hangover |
| 2:10.5 | Anyway, I went two days in a row this weekend and paying for it a little bit now hence the late start it was the ton of fun though a lot of dancing fist bumping lasers things like that anyway I bring this up for a couple of reasons first on a more personal note when I was at Lala yesterday on the second day I was stopped by someone who said you know he recognized me from pursuit in the podcast it was it was cool we chatted for a couple minutes but it put this big smile on my face you know Chicago is a big small city so it's just like a big smile |
| 2:39.5 | small city so I get recognized somewhat frequently just because it's so small and I kind of tend to hang out downtown a lot which is insane in and of itself but yesterday specifically it had a kind of a more noticeable impact on me you know here we were you know at this stage call it a 10,000 people at the stage and this one dude all smiles saying how much you liked reading pursuit very cool and very humbling but it was really noticeable like as I walked around with friends looking at everyone there was kind of this all |
| 3:09.5 | alarming lack of smiles it was really weird here we were at this you know amazing music festival and everyone was kind of frowning or just seemed down to me |
| 3:17.5 | and now again I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the fact that it was you know almost a hundred degrees out there was a ton of booze and drugs and just kind of a long day with tons of crowds but it got me thinking and you know I've set it before but I'm a pretty optimistic person |
| 3:31.9 | as a result I think I've become much more capable of intentionally just being happier and that's what I want to talk about today and you know as I was writing this outline and you know at the risk of sounding like a total jerk I think that being happy is something that we can intentionally do more often I think being happy is is a state of mind and the way that we carry ourselves interact with others is something that we can kind of force ourselves to do and that should be easy right you know who doesn't want to be happy |
| 4:01.7 | you know and I think that my ability to kind of just be happy comes from the fact that I'm pretty self aware you know for the most part I think I know what makes me tick you know I think I know when I'm feeling up or down or when I need to kind of pivot my brain to just be grateful and happy |
| 4:17.9 | now at the same time I like I totally get that this isn't easy for everyone I get that everyone has shit going on in their lives bad stuff relationships family health stress whatever may be you know and for me to sit here and just be like hey man just be happy |
| 4:30.9 | I get that that's kind of a bone head move so I'm going to try to avoid doing that but I will say that when I look at my life I've developed some practices that can you know really help you block out the bad things that are happening right now kind of remove other expectations that are holding you back and enable you to just kind of naturally and organically be happy |
| 4:50.9 | so this episode I wrote down a couple of things that I do pretty regularly that kind of just put a smile on my face help me be grateful and just have fun you know as a result that you know when I tap into these practices and these kind of mindsets that I'm able to just genuinely and intentionally be happy no matter kind of what's going on in my life at that time. |
| 5:12.9 | So here they are I wrote down a couple and the first one is that you know I found that being being happy is all about blocking out negative voices in your head you know we all negative things that happen in our life sometimes were pessimistic sometimes we hold onto the past or we worry about the future you know we get down ourselves and I totally get that I happens to be all this freaking time you know but I found that being happy is simply about shutting out negativity you know that's the fastest way to be happy it's a it's a mind set shift |
| 5:41.9 | it's a shocker right cases recommending that we shift our mindset I mean it is it is in the title of the podcast but I've I've found this to be so incredibly true you know when you're able to do that and just focus on the president move beyond any complaining or negativity you you really have no choice but to be happy or or minimum just a little bit happier so how do you do that you know I think it's not some like Jedi mind trick or anything like that you know need some meditation app or anything I think it's a simple way to do that. |
| 6:11.9 | So I'm just taking a step back and being present and again I know that sounds simple but for me it's it's super effective you know when you're present you're thankful and I think that gratitude is seriously the key to everything in life it really is you know we create so many unwarranted problems in our life we hold on to things that might have hurt us in the past or that are worrying us about the future but gratitude kind of effectively erases all that I really think it does you know when you force your mind to just be present and when you're right you're right. |
| 6:41.9 | You're forced yourself to say okay case pauses like you know what is just one thing you're thankful for right now that erodes everything else you know like for pursuit for example it's it's a growing business is a growing company it's getting a lot of attention from brands and we're closing a lot of deals it's great you know the other day I had been hoping to close this big deal it was kind of probably the biggest one yet for us with a brand that you definitely know but you know anyway it was a long day that day and finally they got back to me saying that they decided not to move forward and that they didn't think that they were going to be a big deal. |
