Hi, this is Jen Rubin, and this is Jen Rubin's Green Room. Welcome to the show. It seems like every week we talk about threats to democracy, and that's because it's an ongoing problem.

It is not going to go away until the Republican Party rediscovers democracy.

And in the meantime, the threats seem to come from all directions.

It comes from the propagandistic right-wing media that peddles in

conspiracies and continually propagates false narratives about the economy, about science. It comes from a

House Republican Party that is completely dysfunctional, took a zillion

tribes before they got Mike Johnson, who is himself a Christian nationalist.

Doesn't believe, I think, that America is a multicultural, multi-pluralistic, multi-religious society, but thinks that

the Christian version of the Bible is the key to our social and political future.

And it, of course, comes from voters.

And this is what we come back to again and again. Ultimately, there are tens of

millions of voters who have decided that democracy, they'd rather get their way. They'd rather

have their guy in office, no matter what the stakes, no matter what the means of putting him

there are. they'd rather get

their way because they have been so enraged, become so resentful, so fearful of having someone

else in power that they're willing to chuck democracy overboard so that they can have

their cultural, racial champion in power.

And this is very dangerous.

We need a society.

We need a electorate that actually believes in democracy.

Because ultimately, if voters don't, if they're willing to trade in democracy,
