Summary

Working Realtor Moms β€” Tips, Real Talk, and Encouragement

Happy Mother's Day. This episode aired the day after. Alissa went to the beach without her children. It was a great decision.

This is our episode for the working realtor moms in our audience β€” and we get a lot of messages from them. We're not here to tell you how it should be done. We're here to tell you that you're doing it, and that's the whole point.

A quick note: this episode is not meant to alienate anyone. Not every listener is a mom, wants to be a mom, or has a great relationship with their mother. But we are moms, and this is what we've got.

Here's what we cover in this episode:

- Alissa's Mother's Day: she went to the beach without her kids. Her mom said enjoy. A+ parenting on all fronts.
- All mothers are working mothers. Yes, all of them.
- The stay-at-home mom conversation at school pickup: how to ask "do you work?" without it sounding like an accusation (it's all in the tone, and "do you work?" hits different than "what do you do?")
- Pro tip: if you want other parents to ask what you do at school dropoff, wear your work clothes even when you don't have client meetings
- Don't wear a name tag to school. Just don't.
- What it looked like for Alissa to have a newborn and a real estate business: pumping in the parking lot before lunch, nursing and running to appointments, back before the next feed
- Haven was eight weeks old when she started daycare. Tate had a completely different setup. Your season of life determines your plan β€” not anyone else's.
- The working mom guilt trap: it's not about doing everything perfectly, it's about figuring out your system
- Scheduling advice: leave whitespace. The worst days are the ones when the email is out of control and you have to close the laptop and pick up the kids. You can't do both at the same time without yelling.
- "If you aren't yelling at your kids, you're not spending enough time with them." β€” Reese Witherspoon
- Night mode: when you have to work after they go to bed, schedule all your emails to go out at 7:30am so you start the next day already ahead
- The nap trade-off: Alissa gets up with the kids first, Tanner gets up around 9, she goes back to bed for an hour. Life-changing.
- You don't have to choose between full-time daycare and doing nothing β€” Mother's Day Out, a sitter one or two days a week, or swapping with another realtor mom are all real options
- Finding your realtor mom tribe: the Parent Trap story of Haven and her "twin" whose teacher mom covers school-closed days while Alissa covers field trips
- The joint birthday party β€” one invitation, one cake, split the fruit tray, mom friendship goals
- Comparison creep: the Pinterest Valentine bag vs. just throwing in a sucker. "How would a man do this?" is a genuinely useful question.
- The realtor who sells $2 million and feels great about it β€” and should. Not everyone needs to sell 12 million.
- What's the goal? Not volume for the sake of volume. The goal is quality of life.
- "The only way to do a great job is to love what you do." And if being a working mom is making you resent real estate or resent being a mom, something needs to shift.
- Successful mothers are not the ones who never struggled. They're the ones who never gave up.
- An empty tank will take you exactly nowhere.
- Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can. β€” Arthur Ashe
- You are the perfect mother for your family.
- Don't let a bad moment make you feel like you have a bad life.
- You are enough. You have enough. You do enough.

Toast of the week from Jodi Littlefield with the Gandalf Team / Clark Real Estate in Reno, Nevada, toasting her entire team β€” her mentors, the women, and John who makes sure they're safe on showings. Cheers!
