Summary

There are many arguments about the funniest team in the history of cinema. There are die hard Laurel and Hardy fans. Some people love Abbot and Costello. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis made some of the most successful comedies of all time and, of course, one cannot overlook the genius of Monty Python. Still, for the combination of physical comedy, brilliant wit and pure chaos it's tough to beat the Marx Brothers and for Max Brothers Movies, it's tough to beat the brilliant and irreverent Duck Soup.

brothers comedies and one that got a lot of attention and has been analyzed and re-analyzed so many times over the generation since

0:29.4

it's been called a political satire. It's been called a straight physical comedy. It's been called just a brilliant comedy.

0:35.4

Some people have called it outdated. It is one of, but I would disagree with those people. It is one of my favorite watches every single time.

0:41.9

It's a tight hour and 10 minutes. Some great gags, some legendary scenes, especially the same between Harpo marks and groucho marks,

0:48.9

where they're doing that simulation of whether he's in the mirror or not going back and forth, a great exercise for all you actors who've done that.

0:55.4

I'm sure the mirror exercise many, many times. But this is such a legendary comedy because of the great performances from the marks brothers,

1:01.9

but also you got to give some love to Margaret Dumont, their classic constantly, how can I say this constantly put upon lady in waiting that she does a incredible job in this film as well.

1:13.9

Louis Calhoun is very hilarious as Ambassador Trentino at your Kennedy has some great moments. He's the, he's the lemonade vendor there that has the back and forth with Harpo and Chico while they're selling peanuts right outside and Raquel Torres,

1:27.4

a great Latin actress Mexican actress is a part of the cast as well. So one that I think you guys will thoroughly enjoy. It's an hour and 10 minutes.

1:34.4

You can find it on to be TV. I'm sure we have it to buy on the WWW dot son of files, Senator files dot net for you all to enjoy as well. So sit back, relax, tickle that funny boat of yours, get it ready and Steven, I will bring you duck soup this weekend on the

Hello and welcome once again to the cine files for each week. We enter the world of a great film. We explored themes, the history, the filmmaking and the

2:15.6

influence it has on us today. My name is Steve Morris. I'm a filmmaker and directing instructor in Los Angeles, California. I love one of a writer producer and host over on the

2:24.9

outlaw nation and voice over artist here in the world and excited to be getting into this movie and a lover of old school comedy. And especially the

2:36.5

Marks Brothers, my man. There's something so special about the Marks Brothers that the level of wackiness is so high. And it's funny. This is our second film from the 30s we've done

2:49.2

recently and I've made the same mistake both times. Last time was his go Friday and I said, John, it's a short movie won't take me that long to prep. And then I'm watching it. And it's so fast pace that I couldn't keep up. Yeah. And this was the same thing. The movie is 68 minutes, but

3:05.2

there's literally constantly millions of things going on and just grouchos lines. It's just like, wait, wait, what, what did he say? But the movie is a duck soup. And John, do you remember how you first came to it? Yeah, I'm

3:21.5

watched it when I was a kid. I remember, like, you know, as I've said before on the show, multiple times, Metro Media 5 in DC used to show old movies growing up or WDCA 20. It was one of those two. And I

3:34.1

remember, because my parents worked so much, you know, their immigrants, this country had to work a lot to kind of pay our bills. I was planted in front of a television for a majority of my younger years. And I remember watching this film, watching the Marks Brothers and developing a very early love and devotion to the Marks Brothers and being obsessed I've read like so many biographies on them. Just incredible love I have for them. So I remember watching this thing as a kid. And just laughing so much. Especially
