In the mid-1950s reports began flooding out of Venezuela regarding a rash of all-too close encounters between human beings and evidently extraterrestrial entities; but these beings were nothing like the bizarre, but ultimately benign creatures that Steven Spielberg would make so famous a quarter of a century later.
