0:05.8	I'm your host Heather Ashley, and today's case is out of Henry County, Virginia.

0:13.5	Michael Short, aka Mike, was known for being a happy, go-lucky guy who was known for pulling
0:32.8	epic pranks on his sister.
0:34.8	He was the kind of guy that you could always count on to liven up the place and was always

0:40.8	Throughout the 70s and early 80s, Mike got married a few times, and while none of those
0:45.6	relationships panned out, they did lead to the birth of his three children, which were all boys.
0:51.9	Mike hadn't exactly been lucky and loved, but in the late 80s, he got married a fourth and
0:57.2	final time to a woman named Mary Hall.
1:00.4	There was something different about Mary, she was sweet and kind down to her bones,
1:05.0	and she seemed to have a settling effect on Mike's life.
1:08.2	According to Mike's sister, the couple tended to keep to themselves, but they seemed really happy.
1:15.1	Fast forward a few years later to July 12, 1993, and Mike and Mary welcomed their first
1:21.7	child together. This might have been Mike's fourth child, but it had finally happened
1:26.5	he had his first daughter, a beautiful baby girl that they named Jennifer Renee.
1:32.2	Jennifer was sweet just like her mom and attached to her parents at the hip.
1:36.8	One teacher told the Greensboro News and Record, she would come up to you and wait to be noticed,
1:42.0	but when you'd notice her, she'd give you that shy smile that would melt your heart.
1:46.2	The next thing you knew, she wanted a hug.
1:49.0	With a baby in tow, the short family settled into a tiny little brick rancher in Bassett, Virginia.
