I was thinking this morning about the wonderful and yet

dangerous tool we have in the internet. It's wonderful because we can buy things without leaving our home.

We can listen to books and podcasts and sermons online

and communicate with our friends and family by simply texting.

This is an amazing gift. But just like the gift of

speech, there is a bad side. There's a danger zone. James 3, 5 and 6, says,

even so the tongue is a little member

and boasts great things.

See how great a forest a little fire kindles.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our

members that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of nature. And it is set on fire by hell.

When you're typing on the internet, it is just the same as speaking. And so this scripture about our tongue,

being a little member and boasting great things, it certainly applies to everything we type and email and comment, etc.

The internet provides us with an enormous microphone and that can be an intoxicating power to some who have neither the wisdom

nor the self-restraint to keep themselves from misbehaving online. They're playing

with matches. Just imagine for a minute with me what it would

have been like if the comments were open while the Lord Jesus Christ was teaching.

Imagine the fights that would have broken out over his words.

It was bad enough as it was.

They crucified him.

But his every word would have been picked apart online by the self-appointed critics and
