Summary
In today's Monday Message, Emily talks about breaking self sufficiency. The survival instinct in us turns on our self sufficiency in order to get through hard things. We rely only on ourselves to make it through. You may not have had to work through breaking this habit but if you have, you know it can be very difficult. It is important to allow others to step in and help you and show up for you. You may have always felt alone and you continue to battle on your own. You may see asking for help as weak. Of course there's things and experiences in life we must all do on our own, but there are times when it's healthy to lean on someone else. We all need someone to listen to us, encourage us, support us and when we don't lean into those relationships we will always rely on ourselves which isn't always a good thing. Leaning on a friend, a family member and God can help us get through the hardest moments in life and sometimes helps us get through them sooner than we would if we relied on just ourselves. We don't want to focus too much on what's wrong in our lives so it's so important to allow others to lift us up and to move forward. Protect your focus and be intentional about it. Allow others to show up for you. That's today's message.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, everyone and welcome to the Evolve of Emily's show. I am your host, Emily Hayden, |
| 0:20.2 | and you are listening to another Monday message. |
| 0:23.4 | Every single Monday, I bring a message of the day to you guys. So here's today's message. |
| 0:28.9 | It is time to break self-sufficiency off of you. Self-sufficiency is something that a lot of us have learned due to the survival instinct. It's what we had to do |
| 0:40.0 | in order to get through. Now this message may not be for everybody. Maybe not everybody |
| 0:44.7 | struggles with this or has created a lifestyle and a pattern of this. But I know in my own life, |
| 0:50.3 | I've had to walk through this. I've had to work through breaking this off of me. And you would, you know, almost want to ask, why would you want to break self-sufficiency off |
| 0:57.8 | of you? It's gotten to you. It's gotten you to where you're at today. And the truth is, yes, |
| 1:02.0 | there is something so beautiful in having that desire, that willingness, that grit, that drive, |
| 1:07.3 | to figure it out no matter what happens and to take responsibility into your own hands |
| 1:11.8 | and to go out there and get everything that you want in life. Absolutely. But I think with every |
| 1:16.7 | strength, there's also a weakness that could be attached to it if there is not a healthy level of |
| 1:23.0 | balance between that strength and where it could potentially bring you down. A way that self-sufficiency |
| 1:29.7 | could potentially bring you down in your life and it's something I've experienced, absolutely, |
| 1:34.3 | is when you go through difficult times, not wanting to allow others to step in and to help you, |
| 1:41.5 | because maybe previously that was never an option for you. |
| 1:49.5 | So you're just not in practice of what it looks like to allow other people to show up for you. |
| 1:55.3 | And sometimes you will be in a position in life where you have some of the most incredible people and relationships around you, things that you've worked so hard for. |
| 1:58.8 | And then you get into a hard spot and you try to |
| 2:01.0 | battle this thing out by yourself and you're still living as if you don't have those friendships, |
| 2:07.0 | that family, or restored relationships with people. And so I would encourage you to take a good |
| 2:13.5 | look at yourself and ask yourself, where in my life have I been self-sufficient? Where in |
