The topic today is the love of money and you might think what who me?

Something happens to us when money is involved and when love of money is forefront, it can cause

divorces, strife and families, and shipwreck many who chase it. Paul says in

1st Timothy 610,

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil,

for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness

and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

First, notice that is not money is a root of all evil, but love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

And that's an important distinction.

How does this love of money get into our souls

and take root?

Well, it is ushered in by envy, discontent and greed.

It is a wanting what we can have,

wanting what someone else has,

or just wanting more of what we already have. We see something we want and it

looks like someone else might get it and we suddenly become competitive or

covetous or greedy. It can grip your heart and mind in an instant.

You might surprise yourself at a yard sale or on marketplace.

When this suddenly surfaces.

There you were looking at something when someone else

bought it out from under you, or once you saw them want it, you had a sudden desire to get it first.
