Summary
Late in 2025 one of my distractions, one that I wasn't aware of for a while, was fear. I was afraid that If I didn't earn income or receive it in a certain way, I wasn't doing things "right." This ended up putting me into a bit of freeze mode and if you've ever experienced freeze mode you know how much that feels like being stuck in time.
In todays episode, let's talk a bit about distractions and how they might show up in your life and put a halt on living the life you deserve.

| 0:00.0 | Hey, hey, welcome back to the Brown Girl Self Care Podcast. My name is Bree, and in today's episode, |
| 0:07.4 | I want to give you some words of, I guess, wisdom or intuition, advice, sisterly advice, |
| 0:14.2 | auntie advice, girlfriend advice. If I was your sister, your auntie, your auntie, your bestie, you're, or someone in your inner circle. This is some |
| 0:23.9 | advice that I would give you right now. And I say this with love. With all the love in the world. |
| 0:31.8 | What I would tell you is that right now with everything that is going on, right now in this year, 2026, with everything that is going on, |
| 0:42.3 | now is not the time for distractions. And by distractions, I mean, you are going to need to give up some of the sideline stuff that is keeping you weighed down right now in this season. |
| 1:03.9 | You're going to have to release some things, let some things go, things that you are doing for convenience that really are keeping you, or are going to hinder |
| 1:12.5 | you this year. This year, I feel, is going to be a breakthrough year for many black women. |
| 1:22.2 | I feel like there is a chance or an opportunity for us to really not only put ourselves first, but put |
| 1:30.9 | ourselves in a situation or put ourselves in a position, I should say, to really get what we |
| 1:41.5 | came for if you catch my drift, really set ourselves up or put ourselves in a position |
| 1:48.4 | to really have the type of life that we want to have live the type of life that we want to live |
| 1:56.1 | but it will be impossible for some of us because we are allowing distraction and comfort to keep us in kind of like with the wool over our eyes. |
| 2:11.3 | We refuse or we're not allowing ourselves to see, for example, where we are or your current circumstance for what it really is |
| 2:21.0 | and or you're allowing maybe embarrassment or pain to kind of like put the wool over your eyes as well. |
| 2:31.2 | And so you're going to get to the end of 2026 and you're going to be very disappointed because the distractions that are distracting you are just doing what they were designed to do. |
| 2:44.5 | So maybe your distraction is embarrassment or fear or anxiety. |
| 2:55.6 | Okay. And this is not a finger-point episode. I experience anxiety and fear. Listen, I feel like I was in a freeze mode for several parts of 2025. And I had to |
| 3:05.2 | really sit with that because I, as much as I'm aware, I'm not aware all the time because I was very functional in other areas. |
| 3:15.6 | But with the move and everything and just life, you know, in general, I ended up being in freeze mode in certain, in small portions of my life. |
| 3:24.8 | And I really had to take time to process that, right? |
| 3:31.7 | So that was my distraction. |
