Summary

Dr. Patti Kim is a naturopathic doctor and acupuncturist in Los Angeles. She’s also my close friend, one of my favorite people to talk to. She came over on New Year’s Day to talk about our end-of-year rituals, including journaling prompts and ins and outs. We also get into self-awareness vs. integration, natural cycles, delighting in the discomfort of being human, and trends in wellness. Plus longevity in every sense of the word, from her career to our aging bodies, parents and pets. I’m splitting this into two parts so come back next week for more. And in the meantime, if you haven’t listened to our earlier conversations, they covered gentle naturopathic medicine, wellness vs. enjoying your life, simple quick eating, how loneliness impacts physical health, cocooning, and navigating change while staying present with what is in front of us.

Anytime something moves quickly in nature, it's destructive, because it's not meant to move quickly.

0:11.4

Even if it's just something as simple as a thunderstorm all the way to a tsunami, nature does not move quickly.

0:17.8

Otherwise, it's destructive. Welcome back. Happy New Year. 2025. That's Richie,

You're about to hear me speak to one of my closest friends. Perhaps you know her.

0:39.9

If you do, you love her. She's been on the show twice already. She's joining a very small group in the

three-timers club, and it's Dr. Patty. She came over yesterday, which was New Year's Day, 2025.

1:00.1

Today is the second day of the year, and I have been listening back to our conversation. If you don't know Dr. Patty Kim, she's a naturopathic doctor,

1:05.6

an acupuncturist here in Los Angeles, very well known, very accomplished, and she happens to be one of my favorite

1:14.6

people to talk to. And therefore, what you're about to hear is a very long, very loose conversation

1:21.7

that's going to feel a bit like you're just eavesdropping on two friends hanging out on a holiday.

1:30.0

And it was also pretty late at night.

1:32.4

So it gets a little bit like a pillow talk at a sleepover.

1:37.7

And so loose, in fact, you know, I could call this episode.

1:42.6

I could title it.

1:47.9

I might cut this out. but because I said that pretty often. But, you know, I was just editing it and I'm leaving in pretty much everything

1:53.9

because I don't know, because this is what I like listening to podcast wise and tis the

2:00.5

season. Thanks for being here. Thanks for listening. Like I said, it was long, so I'm actually splitting this up into two parts. So you're about to hear us start by talking about the new year and any traditions or journaling, ins and outs, that sort of thing, self-awareness,

2:21.8

but lacking integration. We get into cycles and trends and wellness. We talk about longevity

2:28.2

in every sense of the word, from her career to aging bodies and parents and pets and much, much more.

2:37.6

So that's all ahead.

2:39.8

And I'm so grateful that you're here, that you're listening.
