And although I can't state with equal precision the number of polls that have been

commissioned and published in that time frame,

I would be willing to bet a non-trivial sum of money that the total of the polls is just as high,

if not higher, than the number of days.

We have been inundated with an avalanche of data on Donald Trump's job approval, his performance on every issue under the sun, on the mood of the country, on our collective perception of the economy, the state of our democracy, and on and on and on.

All right, probably all that data makes you crazy. Not me. You can call me a freak or a sicko

or whatever, but despite there are many and manifest flaws, I have an insatiable appetite for polls.

But the one thing that I crave more than public opinion research data is the far more concrete and meaningful empirical evidence

that election returns afford. And lucky for me and for you in less than 48 hours when we're at

day number 290, the polls will close, the off-year elections in New York, in New Jersey, in California,
