Even before Tuesday night, it had already been, for some of us, a big week for Team Blue,

by which of course I mean my Los Angeles Dodgers, which pulled off an extraordinary

comeback last weekend in Toronto, winning two of the most exciting, dramatic, and simply bonkers postseason

baseball games anyone has ever seen, including arguably the greatest World Series game seven in history,

on their way to winning arguably the greatest World Series full stop in history, a series in which

the Dodgers were outplayed by the Blue Jays in almost every dimension of the game.

Offense and defense, starting pitching, relief pitching, hitting for power and for average,

plate discipline, and on and on, except for one thing, which is base running.

And in the end, that one seemingly small failing, plus the ineffable qualities of a team filled with veterans, filled with stars, filled with superstars, a team that knows how to win even when they don't have their A game, even when they are being outplayed, and in particular, knows how to keep it shit together on the biggest stage and in the most intense and highly pressured circumstances

in professional sports, qualities that it should be said are what make champions

champions. That was enough for the Dodgers to become world champions for the second
