Every once in a while, I would get asked about the origin of the apex on the abyss.

How did I come up with the name? What is it mean, etc. It's not something I've made public knowledge just yet.

To begin, I would have to take you back to the inception of the show, which started about 18 months ago.

Around this time, I only listened to a few podcasts, and the only true crime shows I knew about, if I remember correctly, were serial and Generation Y.

I was completely obsessed with listening, and it got me thinking,

this whole process of creating

a podcast seemed like a lot of fun, and I wanted to try my hand at it. I had always enjoyed

storytelling and things of that nature, so why not give it a shot? Like any person who becomes

completely engrossed in things like the ID channel, I binge shows like forensic files and

During the brainstorming process for the show, I remember the name of a particularly tragic

episode of Disappeared called The Vortex. That name stuck with me. At first I thought,

this is a great eye-catching word. I'll use this. but after searching, this name was taken by another show.

So I went back to square one. I looked at other words and one contender was the void. But again,

that name was taken. I began to look up synonyms and antonyms when I came across the word,

Abyss. And I just enjoyed the feeling of that.

So there I had it.

I was going to call the show The Abyss.

At the time I was naive enough to think that I was able to handle more than one show,

so I wanted to start another.

Something that had a lighter feel to it.

So I entitled that one, The Apex, because it was an antonym of the abyss.
