Good morning my friends and welcome back to the morning mindset. I hope you are

ready to get your minds aligned with the truth of God. My name is Carrie

Green, so welcome I'm glad you are here today.

It is not only time for us to get our minds align with God's truth, it is time for us to begin a new study.

As we have wrapped up First Peter, about five or six episodes ago and then had a short

little study on the 4F progression and I just felt it was natural and also perhaps even necessary for us to go into second Peter in our time of study because

second Peter is such a rich letter that Peter wrote to the church in the area of Asia Minor, the area where he was traveling.

And we believe he even perhaps wrote this book from Rome.

Now before we get into the actual verses of 2 Peter,

I thought it would be great for us to remind ourselves

who this guy Peter is. The Peter who wrote these letters is the very same Peter

who was one of Jesus disciples. He was earlier called Simon which was probably the name that he went by and Jesus

began calling him Peter or Petros. In one passage we see Jesus say you are Simon

but I call you Peter or Rock because that's what his

name meant and it was kind of the Greek surname for the name Simon and so

Peter took on this new identity as it seems many people do when they come to Christ back in the

biblical day they seemed eager to portray with their name the change that Jesus had made in their lives

And Peter was one of those guys who is an everyday guy just like us and I feel like that's important to say and

important to understand. In fact it's encouraging to me because Peter was one of

those guys who made mistakes and his mistakes were the kind that seemed to be just right out there in front of everybody for all to see.

And Peter was the guy who in the garden when the crowd came and the soldiers came to take Jesus

away. Peter's the one who pulled out the sword and started swinging.
