I'm John Batchel with my colleague Peter Berkowitz of the Hoover Institution, writing his

call for Real Clear Politics, about a new book, Seven Things You Can't Say About China by Senator Tom Cotton.

We come to two together.

China has infiltrated our society.

Peter, the Confucius institutes we're supposed to ignore.

The influence peddling in circles of Washington, we're supposed to ignore.

All of that, you can't say on air because once again, you're denounced as a person who believes in conspiracy theory, or sometimes it's turned

into doubts about your prejudice. It's odd. It's an odd business. China is a nuclear power,

and yet it insists upon being treated as a dependent state? Well, yes.

So the question is, why should anybody honor their insistence?

And the simple but sad answer is because China has along with India, the largest consumer

market in the world, 1.5 billion people and therefore enormous economic clout.
