This is CBS Island World. I'm John Batchel with my colleagues, Andrew McCarthy, the National

Review Online, and Thaddeus McCarter of American Greatness, the trials of Donald Trump,

just when I thought it was safe to go back in the water. It turns out the trials are not complete,

even though the word complete is often used.

The President of the United States, Mr. Biden, writing an op-ed for the Washington Post, writes,

We should commit to remembering January 6, 2021 every year, to remember it as a day when our democracy was put to the test and prevailed.

To remember that democracy, even in America, is never guaranteed. There are other sentences with that shrill glory-seeking.

However, that's enough to say, I suddenly had my questions about whether the January 6th case

by Mr. Smith has gone away.

You've told me, Andy, that it's unlikely to proceed, but this is forever.

And pending another administration, not the one for Mr. Trump, but another administration,

can that case be revived? Can they find an explanation that would explain the

gap in years between now and the next, the 2029? Well, as a practical matter, John, if what we

talk about in terms of reviving the case would be reviving it against Trump. The answer is no,

because the Biden Justice Department's special counsel, Jack Smith, moved to dismiss

the cases in Washington and Florida, and the courts have agreed with that. So those cases are

gone, meaning you would have to start them over again

at some point. On beginning January 20th, Trump will be running the Justice Department. So obviously,

no one is going to proceed with those cases. And he'll be out in 2029. At that point, everything that happened on January 6th of 2021 will be time barred under the

statute of limitation.

So I don't really see that being revived.

You tell me, though, that some claims suggest that eight law enforcement people died.
