writing at real-clear politics about diplomacy the day after the day after Gaza is secured and the Hamas

defeated but not extinct defeated. Diplomacy is the way forward.

It is generally said in every war, it will end at the negotiation table, not on the battlefield.

So for the Gaza War.

The negotiation must include, according to the document from the commanders for Israel security,

must include the United States, and the way they put it is under American leadership.

Therein lies a puzzle, Peter, because over these last weeks it has been confounding what the Biden administration's policy is towards the Gaza war, towards Israel's

conduct of the Gaza war, I can get this, I can get confused about one day it's no bunker bombs the next day it's a billion dollars

worth of arms how to regard the Biden administration is it fluid is it talking to both sides with different emphasis? How do the commanders for Israeli security see dealing with the Biden administration?

Well in their documents they they in my judgment did not emphasize enough the difficulties that the Biden administration is creating for effective diplomacy between Israel and the United States.

Near as I can tell, and I sit outside government, the Biden administration is rent

by internal contradictions concerning this war.

As you know, they started out very strong

in support of Israel.

President Biden traveled to Israel.

President Biden insisted that the United States would ensure that Israel had all the weapons

that needed to defeat Hamas.

But it was foreseeable from the very beginning that the defeat of Hamas would involve

much death and much destruction inside Gaza, not because the Israelis are reckless or careless but because Hamas made the monstrous

decision to conduct its military operations inside and under Gaza cities.
