This is CBS, I'm John Batsworth, Ryan Bridges, an analyst at Geopolitical Futures of Subscription

Site. We're looking at the Ziten Vendus Beach made by Chancellor Schultz at the end of February

of 2022, two parts, the energy security and now national security. And Ryan going through

these statistics, it is clear, let me summarize, there is disappointment in the pledge of achieving

2% of the GDP for national security. And it begins to look like it was never going to happen.

It was just talk. Is that accurate or is something happened that they're going to fall short?

No, that's accurate. I've seen some conflicting information on whether they're going to hit 2%

in both 2024 and 25 or only 25, but they are readily admitting that they're not going to hit

that target in 2023 or I think from 2026 on. So it's definitely a short blip. It's not,

and for the record, fall short of the commitment that all of Schultz made in the Ziten Vendus

Beach, when he said from now on year after year, we will spend 2% on defense.

And in falling short, was that a plan or is that the nature of, do they lack an armament industry?

Do they not shop at air shows? You know, there are a lot of people ready to sell guns and butter

and the Germans can show up just like anybody else and buy what they need.
