ABOUT THIS EPISODE Jason Borrelli is the Stanford Wrestling head coach. He’s been on the Cardinals’ staff since 2008, and before that, coached and wrestled at Central Michigan University. In this episode we cover Coach Borrelli’s early years wrestling, the influence of Penn State Wrestling Coach Casey Cunningham - who was an NCAA champion for Borrelli’s father at CMU - and updates from the Keep Stanford Wrestling push. Some time pass we were driving home back or we drive back to the hotel in case you

knew that I was shook off of sitting shotgun. He was driving and he looked over at me

and I was just distraught and he said, let me ask you this. He said,

could you have done anything differently? He's like, could you have done anything

differently to be prepared? You know, could physically, mentally, just, could you have

sacrificed anymore? Could you have been more into it? And I said, no, I can't think of anything

and it's just not, you know, I was just upset and that was part of the reason I was upset and

he's like, well, that's all the matters. You know, that's all the matters. If you can go to bed

and tell yourself that you did everything right, you gave yourself the best opportunity and just

wasn't meant to be. It wasn't your day. You can't hang your hat.

We can adore anything and adapt and pivot and change.

Wrestling gave us that ability. I would say that nothing in life has impacted me

or that things wrestling has taught me in terms of self-reflection, resilience. Stop

after I failed. And everything that has shaped my life and where I'm at today would not

be there without the values and basically the lessons I've learned to the sport of wrestling.

For me, wrestling is saying my life because it allowed me to focus and channel my energy.

We're fortunate if you wrestled because if you wrestled, natural talent helps,

but it's 5% of the ingredients. It pales in comparison to heart and technique and effort.

It humbled me, taught me humility. Nothing can humble you more than wrestling.
