Summary

Ever wondered if your pet contributes to your health? This episode reviews data that evaluates children from households with pets versus those without. Included in this discussion, we look at the impact of pets on our immune system and the prevalence of allergies in our modern day life.
Other details in this conversation:
  • Children who grow up in households with dogs have a lower risk for developing autoimmune illnesses like asthma and allergies.
  • Children born by Caesarean Section (CS) in the absence of household pets, reported a twofold higher risk of obesity at the age of 2 in CS-delivered infants compared to those born vaginally.

We're so happy you've joined us. Let's dive into today's episode.

0:22.0

Hey everybody, welcome back. This is the Anxion Health Podcast. My name is Courtney and I'm so

0:26.0

glad that you've joined me today. So I have to be honest, I have a special guest in the studio

0:31.4

with me today. This is his first podcast. He might be a little bit nervous. So far, he has tried

0:38.3

to escape two different times and he's being forced against his will to join me.

0:44.3

So this is not actually a human guest. This is Bodhi and I would say that he's a dog,

0:51.1

maybe by genetics, he is a dog. But if you're needing a visual, Bodhi is somewhat of a

0:58.9

combination of the squirrel from Ice Age. You know the one with the big eyes. It's always running

1:04.2

around with the nut that he carries around. He's half that and then if you are familiar,

1:11.2

if you have kids and you know the movie Lilo and Stitch, he is Stitch. Crazy, also big eyes,

1:18.7

kind of a big head, big ears. So if you if you're walking, if you're out listening to this,

1:23.9

you cannot see Bodhi. You know, that's kind of a good visual for you. So he's quite the character.

1:30.6

But I bring him on today, not because Dr. Motley is unavailable to join me for this podcast

1:36.9

and he's the stand-in. But because we're actually talking about our pets, we're going to talk about

1:41.9

how dogs specifically cats, you know, they kind of fit the bill too. But some of the data that we're

1:47.3

going to look at is really looks at the influence of dogs in the house on our microbiome. And what's

1:54.1

interesting is that animals really have always lived with humans. Like we've up until like this

2:01.1

really industrialized age, we've always cohabitated because we've relied on animals for

2:08.2

Bodhi. Okay. He's so excited to be here. I'm glad he finally spoke up. He's a little shy.
