This week my podcast is for the Widows, but it is also for all of us because

Widows are a very special part of our community. First we're going to look at

the scriptures to see what God says about the plight of the widow and I say plight because it is a difficult

situation whatever the circumstances and no matter how much help and support she is receiving

it's still difficult.

Psalm 68.5 says, A Father of the Fatherless, a defender of Widows, is God in his holy habitation. God defines himself by how he treats the

fatherless and the widow. He is a father and a defender. Often a widow is left

with children. What a comfort to know that her children do have a father in God.

And a wife who's lost her husband may feel defenseless, but God is her defender.

These are truth she must hang on to and believe. But this is not

automatic in the sense that we don't have to look to him and trust him. When you feel

defenseless, look to Christ he is interceding for you to the Father.

Women often look to the creature rather than to the Creator. We must all trust the

Lord. Our husbands cannot meet all our needs or understand our thoughts or protect us from every evil, but God can.

And so those of us who have living husbands must practice leaning on the Lord. No creature can bear the weight that God can.

A widow must learn to believe God and look to him to be her defender and the father to

her children. This means consciously turning to him when she feels

defenseless and constantly pointing her children to God as their father.

Psalm 146.9 says the Lord watches over the strangers, he relieves the fatherless and

widow, but the way of the wicked he turns upside down. God relieves the fatherless and the widow. To relieve is to take away the burden,

to lighten a load, to comfort and strengthen. This is what God says he will do for the fatherless and the widow.
